Happy Memorial Day weekend!! Holiday weekends have traditionally meant gathering with friends and family, cooking out and bringing together food from various kitchens. For an individual or a family with food allergies this can seem daunting. Admittedly, we always bring Jonathan’s food with us wherever we go. I honestly don’t trust other people when it comes to handling his food – it gives me anxiety. It’s so much easier for us to bring it and then we know it’s safe.
Even with Jonathan’s food allergies we still partake in potluck get togethers and I still volunteer to bring food. Desserts can be some of the easiest foods to make allergy friendly – especially cookies – and most of the time you can’t tell the difference. The recipe being featured today is one of our family’s favorites – Snickerdoodles!
They are easy to make, don’t require frosting and they are delicious! I use the Snickerdoodle recipe from Lil’ Luna and you can find it here. To make the recipe allergy friendly for Jonathan I use Earth Balance sticks and Ener-G egg replacer. The dough comes together super fast and Clara usually likes to help me roll the dough balls in the cinnamon and sugar.
Do yourself a favor and make these cookies for your next potluck or get together. They will be allergy friendly and everyone will love them!!
